Sombrero Beach Park is located a few blocks south of US1 in Marathon. This well-maintained sandy beach front offers plenty of space to pick in the shade, let the kids run about on the playground, or take a dip in the water. Although Sombrero Beach Park is located in a residential neighborhood, it does have ample parking. You won't have to carry your beach gear far to get to the shore and the paths are partly shaded. Bring your snacks and picnic or plan to grill at the covered pavilions. Restrooms are onsite with an area to rinse off in the showers. Paddle your kayak, swim, boat, snorkel or swim at this relatively quiet pocket park.
In 2001 the park was made completely handicap accessibile. The city of Marathon City monitors the beach for Loggerhead Turtle nests from April until October when it is common for these endangered animals to come ashore at night to lay eggs. Please remember to give the marked nests space and not disturb the area. Most of the beach is still accessible to visitors even during the nesting season. Volunteers are always needed to help the city survey the beach, please contact them if interested.
The beach area is "dog friendly" and the entire park is open from 7am to dusk.
