Matheson Hammock Park & Beach is a large, 130 acre water-side area east of Kendall and Pinecrest, just south of Coconut Grove. The park is adjacent to the beautiful Fairchild Gardens. This park was created back in the 1930s and developed by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). The sparkling jewel of the park is the manmade tidal pool filled and flushed naturally with water from Biscayne Bay. It is a wonderful place for young children or beginning swimmers. Lounge along the shore and enjoy the picturesque vistas and cooling breezes, take stroll along the nature trails, or get together with friends to enjoy a picnic at the scenic lakeside coral rock pavilion. This is a popular spot for learning Kite-Boarding since the shallow waters are usually so calm. Grab a snack at the snack bar or if you are looking for something more substantial and gourmet, try the Red Fish Grill. It is a popular place for evening dining. Matheson also has a full-service marina including a vendor with sailing and motor-boating lessons. Fees for car entry to the park are $5 on weekdays and $6 on the weekends. Picnic pavilion may be reserved and rented for a fee.
