Delray Beach Historical Society

The Delray Beach Historical Society museum and gardens is located at the corner of Swinton Ave and NE 1st Street just one block north of bustling Atlantic Avenue.

The Delray Beach Historical Society was established in 1964 and consists of a cluster of old Florida cottages on a lush campus.

Call ahead to check for hours or to schedule a docent lead tour. School groups, homeschoolers and visitors of all ages can learn the fascinating history of this South Florida town.

Cason Cottage hosts small intimate events for the holidays, educational lectures and summer camp programming. The Cottage is a cozy 4 room home with early 20th century architectural features.

The 1926 bungalow holds temporary exhibits and is open for viewing when there is an active exhibit or special event.

The bungalow is home to a small gift shop where you can purchase local historical photos or books about Delray Beach for both children and adults.
The Ethel Sterling Williams Archive & Learning Center aka the “Yellow Building”, is a 1908 farm house that was rescued by the Historical Society and adapted as a center for local research, exhibits, and the Historical Society's large archive collection.

The permanent exhibits housed here give a timeline of local Delray Beach History beginning with "pre-history" and continuing to about the mid-20th century. You can learn about fossils, local pioneers and settlers, native tribes, the effects of Jim Crow and so much more.

A new addition are the Heritage Gardens with native Florida plants and habitats. Stroll around the grounds to learn about local flora and fauna. Many of the plants are butterfly favorites like goldenrod, milkweed and beautyberry.

Whether you are a local looking to know more about your town or are just visiting and love history, be sure to stop by the Delray Beach Historical Society campus.
