Haulover Beach Park

Body

So much to do that you can plan to spend the entire day!

Haulover Beach Park is located in northeast Miami-Dade county parallel to the Biscayne campus of Florida International University.  It is the longest stretch of undeveloped beach left in Miami-Dade county. This beach is chock full of diverse opportunities for recreation.  It welcomes both nude sunbathers and dogs which are both rare for South Florida.  The clothing optional area of the beach has it's own etiquette, rules and volunteers on hand to keep it a "family friendly" area.  It is only between lifeguard stations #12 and #16. Canine friends are only allowed on the beach from 8am to 3pm Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday.  They can access the beach from parking areas 3 & 4  and directly from the Haulover Bark Park. The Bark Park features separate areas for dogs of different sizes and includes an open grassy area, picnic tables, and drinking fountains for dogs & their owners.  It is open from 8am to sunset.

Skyward Kites has been operating at Haulover Beach Park for over 20 years.  It rents out all sorts of brightly colored and funky-themed kites in various shapes and sizes.  They now have their own solar-powered concession stand with treats to enjoy as well and will host birthday parties or private events.  It can be found at the southeast corner of the Bill Bird Marina parking lot.  It hosts an annual Kite Flying Festival every year in February featuring some of it's largest and most exciting kites as well as live music and food.

The Bill Bird Marina was renovated in 2010 and features wet slips, laundry facilities, a charter fishing fleet, dive boat, fuel dock, pump out station, bait & tackle, boat ramps, dry storage, boat and jet-ski rentals, and a restaurant.  You can also plan your own event at the marina at it's small, 50 capacity, interior space.  For a small rental fee, you have 3 hours or more to use the space with folding tables and chairs, a small kitchenette with sink, microwave, and mini fridge.  For outside events, there are 4 medium and large size pavilions available for rent throughout the park.  If you are looking for a picturesque spot to exercise, Oceanfront Fitness offers a variety of options waterside near the marina.

Tennis courts are located near parking lot area #2 and are open from 8 a.m. to sunset daily.  There are six accessible courts for use but are non-reservable.  Tennis lessons are offered thru the county, you can contact the park directly for details.  If you like to try your luck at fishing, there are several options.  Haulover Beach Park is home to a very large charter fishing fleet.  Try to catch large sport fish out in the deep ocean or you can stay on dry land at several designated areas around the park.  Fishing is prohibited near the marina and the swimming areas along the Atlantic side beach.  You may cast your rod along the Intracoastal side of the park or along Baker's Haulover Cut as long as you have your fishing liscense in hand.  A license may be purchased at local bait/tackle shops or Walmart.

Parking fees for Haulover are $5-$6 on weekdays (depends on which lot) and $6 on weekends for all lots.  The park only accepts CASH, nothing bigger than a $20 bill is allowed.
