This family friendly venue was built in 1983 and then underwent major expansions and renovations in 2005 to become what it is today. Carter Park now has new pickle ball courts and raquetball to enjoy. There is an indoor gymnsasium, annex, social center, and recreation center.  Families and groups can rent pavilions located throughout the park.

Secret Woods Nature Center

Secret Woods Nature Center in Dania Beach is a wonderful natural oasis in an urban area.  The park and nature center were brought about through the efforts of local citizens wishing to preserve their "Secret Woods" from development.  With the help of the Nature Conservancy and Broward County in the 1970s, the first nature center in the county was opened and the almost 57 acres of land were saved.

Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park

Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park is located on Windley Key near Islamorada. This land once belonged to the Florida East Coast Railroad and was used to quarry the rock for Flagler's Overseas Railroad back in the early 1900s. Today, visitors to the park can take short self-guided walks through 5 different interpretive trails. Learn about the ancient coral reef (known as Key Largo Limestone) that was quarried or about the beautiful natural diversity of this area.  Walk along the 8 foot tall edges of the quarry and see the fossils up close in the cut sections.
