Moms, Dads, grandparents, friends, aunties and uncles grab a pair of stilettos and race to help the Delray Beach Achievement Centers for Children & Families. This local non-profit organization helps meet the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of about 700 children who need them most while helping their low-income families attain stability.
This year's theme is Fab & Funky and participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes or team outfits and decorate their own shoes! The Vince Canning Annual Stiletto Race is a super fun part of the Delray Beach Fashion Week event held from 1/16 to 1/23 along Atlantic Ave in downtown Delray Beach. The race will take place along SE 4th Avenue and "runners" will race their way toward the Atlantic Avenue finish line.
You must be over the age of 18 to participate but be sure to bring along the kids, friends, and family to cheer you on! Running in heels!? No worries. You are actually encouraged to rock those shoes and strut, saunter, skip through the race. Sometimes it's not about winning, it's about doing it with style! The actual dimensions allowed to compete for a trophy are three (3) inch minimum stilettos with a maximum heel circumference of four (4) inches. You may participate in just about any shoe but in order to be eligible for a trophy it must meet those requirements.
The categories for TROPHIES this year are:
The Women's 75 meter Dash
Men's 75 Meter Dash
Senior Sneakers 65+ 75 meter Dash
Team Relay--form a team of four for the 4-leg relay. Each member will run 75 meters
Runaway Bride--dress as a bride (men or women may participate!)
The Following are Competitions--not a race
Most Creative Shoe (Last year's winner made it out of CANDY!--line up on the red carpet)
Sexy Strut (not a race, a red carpet walk)
**Men who are brave enough to participate will be given FREE large size stilettos at Vince Canning Shoes in Delray Beach. Shoes will be available at the event. Or if you would like to pick up shoes prior to the event, call them at 276-6570 and ask for Laronda or Mark Denkler. **
The cost to participate is a non-refundable $25 per person and, again, the proceeds go toward a local charity. The registration begins at 6pm on the day of the race. Kick-off is at 7pm and the races begin at 8pm.
