James A. Rutherford Park is a 45-acre park in Boca Raton open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday. The park is closed on the weekends. It is located in eastern Boca Raton on the east side of the intracoastal near Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. It is located behind the Publix shopping center so be careful coming in from Federal Highway not to pass it!
There is a playground at the south end of the park and several boardwalk paths are on the northern end. Bring your canoe or kayak along to enjoy the trails along the intracoastal. Picnic tables abound as well as grills so bring the family out for an all day outing. Playgrounds for kids of various ages and abilities are located conveniently near the restrooms. A well-paved track runs alongside the playground and out past picnic tables making it a perfect run for scooters and bicycles. Introduce the kids to nature with a well-kept boardwalk trail. See into the native mangrove ecosystem and enjoy vistas of the intracoastal.
