Deerfield Island Park

Body

Deerfield Island Park is located in northern Broward County adjacent to Sullivan Park in the city of Deerfield Beach.  The island can only be accessed by boat.  A free ferry can trasnport you to the island.  The ferry operates only on weekends and runs on the hour from 10am to 3pm.  The shuttle may not run if the weather or water becomes questionable so be sure to call ahead to check on conditions.  If you are arriving by private boat, there are only 6 slips available for ships under 25' long on a first come first serve basis.  The park is only accessible to wheelchairs at high tide so please take note of the tide times.

The 43+ acre triangular park primarily consists of mostly invasive, non-native species, but native plants that provide food for native animals are being reintroduced.  You can spot mangrove swamps, manatee, raccoons, squirrels, armadillos, and gopher tortoises, as well as a variety of migratory and indigenous birds.  There are two short trails to explore consisting of observation platforms and boardwalks for ease of viewing.  There is one small pavilion which may be rented with water and electricity.  There is a nearby shaded playground, horseshow pit and volleyball area as well.   Non-profit scouting groups may use Deerfield Island as a primitive campsite and programming is available about local wildlife.  Fishing is allowed though only in designated areas and with a permit. NO pets are allowed on the island.
