VFW Fishing Tournament

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Key West will be hosting a family-friendly fishing tournament for people of all ages.  One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event benefit local disabled veterans.  Registration can be completed from now until the 6pm Captains Meeting on June 9th (held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Key West VFW, 2200,N. Roosevelt Blvd)

The day (June 10th) starts with lines in the water soon after dawn (7am) and ends with lines out at 3pm.  Weigh in is 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Key West Harbor Yacht Club.  Stay for the family-friendly awards BBQ dinner that night.  All participants receive tickets to the Captains Meeting, the awards dinner and tournament t-shirts.

The excitement of the day is capped off with the award of prizes.  There will be cash prizes for dolphin ($2500.00), Wahoo ($300.00), Grouper ($300.00),and Snapper ($300.00). In addition, there are prizes for the juvenile angler (15 and under) with the heaviest fish and lady angler with heaviest fish.  New for 2015: a prize for any active duty service member with the heaviest fish (5 eligible categories).  If your luck doesn't net you one of the big prizes, then you still have a chance at winning one of the door prizes.  There are a multitude of charter boats in the Key West area that are available for hire or individuals can fish from a head boat.

Fun for entire family can be had for  $200.00 per boat (up to 6 people).  Don't have your own boat? You can buy a per person ticket on the "head boat" or "party boat" which includes bait & tackle.  This is a great choice for families with beginning anglers or just visiting the area with no gear.
