Take a moment in this long weekend to show the kids what MEMORIAL DAY weekend is all about.  Palm Beach and Broward have celebrations and rememberances of Vets & Active Military. 

Broward

There are activities all over Broward county.  Here is a list of places and contacts for the major events planned this weekend:

Memorial Day Observances:

9 a.m. at Veterans Park, 8601 Royal Palm Blvd., Coral Springs. Call 954- 345-2200.

 Parade at 10am  and ceremony at 11 a.m. at Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, 4271 Davie Road. Call 954-797-1163.

11 a.m. Sandy Nininger statue on the Riverwalk behind the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. 954-326-0800.  Best accessed from East Las Olas.  This is hosted every year by American Legion Post 36 in honor of Veterans and soldiers lost who are from Broward county.  The "Wall of  Honor" has bricks honoring fallen soldiers from as far back as WWI to the present time.

Memorial day CELEBRATIONS:

Memorial Day Kidz Fest. Designed especially for kids, this fun day will include displays and activities, rides, games and food. Click the title for more information.

Great American Beach PartyActivities include music, sand sculpting contest, car show, art and 2:30 p.m. military tribute including parachute maneuvers. 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the beach at A1A and Las Olas Boulevard.

 

Palm Beach

In Palm Beach County the following observances and ceremonies will be held on Memorial Day (unless otherwise noted):

8:15 am Wellington Parade & Ceremony. The ceremony begins at 8:30 am at the Veterans Memorial, immediately following the parade. Call 561-753-2484.

9 a.m. at Veteran's Park in Royal Palm Beach, contact 790-5149 for more information. 

9:30 a.m., Veteran's Memorial Park, 9400 W. Palmetto Park Road, between Lyons Road and U.S. 441, west of Boca Raton.  Free. Visit pbcparks.com or call 561-963-6755.

10 a.m.South Florida National Cemetery, located at 6501 State Road 7, south of Lantana Road. 10:00 a.m. Shuttle transportation will be available from 8:15 a.m. at the Target Superstore: 5900 State Road 7, Lake Worth and Winfield Solutions: 8245 U.S. Hwy 441, Boynton Beach. Memorial Day CELEBRATION:
Memorial Day Concert, “An American Tribute,” Music by the New Gardens Band, Indian River Pops and Robert Sharon Chorale. Bring blankets or lawn chairs, $2 chair rental. No coolers, food and beverages available for purchase. 7-9 p.m., Mizner Park Amphitheater, 590 Plaza Real, off Federal Highway just south of Glades Road, Boca Raton. Free. Call 561-393-7073.
