Gumbo Limbo Nature Center

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is located in southeast Boca Raton.  It is a 20 acres protected barrier island area that provides refuge to many varieties of plants and animals - some rare or endangered.  Guests can enjoy a boardwalk trail that features coastal Mangroves and a wooden observation tower as well as live aquatic exhibits and interactive nature center exhibits.  On the northern end of the parking lot, there is a small native plant butterfly garden, small outdoor theater and a nice large intracoastal pavillion.  A small gift shop is also on site with unique Florida items for sale.  Entrance to this attraction is a recommended donation of $5 per person.

Gumbo Limbo monitors more than 600 nests a year within a five mile span of beaches.  They rescue injured sea turtles and release more than 6000 stranded hatchlings each nesting season.  Some of these turtles can be seen in a rescued turtle exhibit with volunteers on hand to answer questions.  Feedings of the aquatic life in the two larger tanks are held and include informative talks by FAU student interns and volunteers.
