Fort Lauderdale and South Florida have many hidden gems of fun, and families are starting to discover Ft Lauderdale with their kids, and they're having the time of their life.  With so much to do it can be difficult to choose what to do first.  Here's a few of our suggestions of where to start.  Be sure to check out more on Fort Lauderdale here.

The Barbie Dreamhouse Experience

The first place to visit is a dream come true for families who have little girls. The Barbie Dreamhouse Experience located in the The Oasis at Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise, Florida is just 8 miles from Ft. Lauderdale. This experience is a must for any little girl or Barbie fan, bringing Barbie's Dreamhouse to life. An interactive 10,000 square-foot area, there are so many living areas and rooms to discover. There are virtual elevators, a closet, living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and balcony to explore. With over 350 special Barbie dolls on display throughout the house, it's any Barbie fans heaven. The virtual elevators will "transport" guests to each floor of the Dreamhouse to participate in interactive activities in every room. Tours of the facility run every 30 to 60 minutes, depending on availability, and the Dreamhouse is open every day. The Barbie experience also has many pricing levels, depending on the type of experience you're looking for. You can schedule private birthday parties here. This is one spot in the Ft. Lauderdale area you don't want to miss if you have Barbie fans in your life.  Here's a tip: Buy a new special Barbie from Wal-Mart or Target before you go. This way your child gets a "souvenir" at a good price.

Bluefoot Pirate Adventure

Another great place right in the heart of Fort Lauderdale is the Bluefoot Pirate Family Adventures. This is a pirate cruise designed for families to discover the adventure of being a pirate, sailing around South Florida. This fun-filled experience is chocked full of excitement. You and your family will set sail for a 90 minute excursion on the high seas, in search of pirates' treasure. There is a good chance you may even end up in a battle with other vessels. With group discounts, and several groupons available, this experience can also be well worth the money. They also do private birthday parties for kids, with many available packages. Bluefoot Pirate Family Adventures does ask all individuals to call ahead, as they have one ship and only take a few cruises per day. You should also check with them ahead of time, as certain weather situations will not allow them to sail. Overall, if your family has some pirate fans in it, this is a wonderful experience to try.

Funderdome

The next location in Ft. Lauderdale for a family with kids is Funderdome Indoor Playground & Cafe'. Located in the Southport Shopping Center, Funderdome offers activities for everyone. If you have children under three years of age, there is a toddler room designed specifically for them. The room is full of padded, multi-colored cushioned shapes. There are several vehicles to play in and wall puzzles covering the room. For the older kids, there is a sky trail ropes course. At 22-feet above the ground, there are seven different courses designed to test your balance, confidence and coordination. While you're safely tethered to the ceiling the entire time, you must balance and navigate your way on boards, cables, ropes and other pathways throughout. Next is the ball-blaster arena. You fire colorful Styrofoam balls out of air cannons through small openings at your opponents. Designed to play head-to-head or in teams, it's a lot of fun for kids and adults alike. After that you can try your skill at the Funder City climbing wall. Designed for ages 3 and up, the futuristic landscape backdrop will test your determination and strength. With several walls to choose from, Funderdome will time your climb, giving you goals to shoot for every time you go back.

The space quadrant laser maze is a great room for any age. You will have to roll, jump and duck to avoid the blasts from the "lasers" and complete the course as fast as you can. There is an easy, medium, difficult and expert course, so people of all ages can enjoy this area. Another spot which is great for any age is the interactive activity floor. This is an ever-changing colorful floor, with a variety of sports related games and other activities designed for jumping, twisting and dancing. With tons of high energy music, the projection floor will keep you entertained for a long time. The 30-foot high playground and obstacle course is a sight to see. The playground spans several stories and consists of super slides, mazes and steps. On top of that, you can only reach the sports courts in the sky if you can conquer the vertical tower. If all of these attractions aren't enough for you, there is also an arcade if you want to keep your feet on the ground and enjoy some of the best video games around.

You can plan to stay all day, and when you need a break you can visit the Funderdome cafe'. It has free WI-FI and big screen TV's. Serving kids favorites like pizza, burgers and hot dogs, they also offer a variety of healthy choices. The adults enjoy relaxing with a cup of their Lavazza coffee as they wait. With birthday parties, classes available to all ages, and so many rooms and unique experiences, this is one place you can visit over and over again. If you do plan on making this a place you want to constantly attend, look into their monthly and VIP pricing plans to save the most amount of money.
