Peaceful Waters Sanctuary

Body

If you are in South Florida and looking for something to do to get away from the hustle and bustle of a normal busy day, Peaceful Waters Sanctuary should be your destination of choice. A 26 acre wetlands park, Peaceful Waters Sanctuary lives up to its name, allowing you to walk in a tranquil paradise. There are 1,500 feet of raised walkways that carry you through the park, bringing you right into the heart of the wildlife habitat. There is also a trail that goes around the wetlands, complete with benches to sit on. Regardless of which path you choose, both of them have signs posted with detailed information about some of the birds you may see, or the plants that are growing there.

Although it is peaceful, like its name implies, it is definitely not quiet. There are over 50 different species of birds that call the sanctuary their home, and they cheerfully sing out their calls as if performing on cue for visitors. Some of the amazing birds you may see on your visit include, but are definitely not limited to: Great Blue Herons, Pileated Woodpeckers, Black Necked Stilts, and maybe even a Bald Eagle if you're lucky. You may also see some inhabitants of the 4 legged variety too, with foxes, otters and raccoons all calling the sanctuary home.

Peaceful Waters Sanctuary is the perfect place to go for a nice, relaxing stroll through the wetlands. It is open to the public until dusk, and is an ideal way to see the plants and wildlife that are native to South Florida. If you bring your camera, you will have the opportunity to take some breath-taking wildlife pictures of animals in their natural habitat. Since there are no tour guides, it is great to bring the whole family and go at your own pace seeing all that you can.

The Sanctuary is open to groups and closes daily at dusk. It is located in the southeast corner of Village Park.
