Islamorada Founders Park

Body

Islamorada Founders Park is a very large community park operated by the village of Islamorada. The park is located on the Gulf of Mexico side of Islamorada just off mile marker 87 on the Overseas Highway. The park is a large well-manicured recreational facility primarily for use by local residents. Guests staying in nearby hotels can also use the facilities for free. All other guests must pay a per person fee for access to the park. The onsite Ron Levy Aquatic Center charges it's own usage fees for all visitors and features a large Olympic-size pool and toddler splash pad. Two playgrounds are adjacent to the nice shallow man made sandy beach.  Kids can practice snorkeling, clamber on the playground or run around the sports fields. The recently completed Amphitheater hosts many fun music perfromances and festivals throughout the year.  Bring out Fido for the great dog park or watch the kids pull tricks at the skate park. Local teams come out for games of soccer and baseball but you can bring your ball and raquet to get active yourself on the tennis courts. The 3 miles of jogging trails wind around all the active areas of the park and can be broken up into different lengths. The huge full service marina allows for almost 80 boat slips and a launching ramp. There is no food sold in the park so bring your snacks or a picnic basket but don't bring your cooler full of beer since alcohol is not allowed on premises.
