Delray's Fabulous Fashion Week 2015: Tips and Highlights

Body

High fashion hit the streets in the Village By the Sea on Saturday and South Florida Finds got a chance to see the Delray Swim Fashion show kick off event.  Atlantic Avenue in downtown Delray Beach was packed for this standing room only event!  The vibe was hip and fun with spectators and models of all ages strutting their stuff.  The location of the DeBilzan Square (our nickname for it)  was great for this show with it’s central locale, chic art and scrumptious food choices nearby.

Local celebrity radio host Tim  “The Byrdman” Byrd emceed with Jules Guaglardi of the popular Roxy Lulu Boutique as local and national designers’ handiwork swirled around to the beat of a Bob Marley mix.  We spotted our beloved Delray Beach city commissioners supporting the city’s vibrant art scene, Jordana Jarjura and Adam Frankel!  We loved seeing Oh My Bod, Shoshanna, Aloha Republic and Fresh Produce sporting great cover ups and accessories to go with their swimwear.  While we don’t picture ourselves strolling down Delray Beach’s shoreline sands in high heels and platform shoes, the vibrant colors and sophisticated looks would be a great match for trendy locales all over South Florida.

This upcoming week, there will be jewelry trunk shows almost daily and specialty events at local stores where we’re hoping to get a closer look at some of the great items we saw on the runway.  Tuesday’s Bold Prints fashion show, Thursday’s Fashion Day & Night out, Friday’s Stiletto Race benefitting the Achievement Center of Delray and the finale Fashion Show on Saturday are this week’s main highlights. There are happenings all week with Fashion Week discounts and specials.  If you’re not into big crowds, there will be plenty of boutique events to participate in during the week.

Bring the whole family down.  The kids will enjoy the excitement of the shows and parents can partake in the yummy foods along the Avenue.  If the kids tire, take a quick break at the downtown playground with it’s huge open field or make a quick stop at Kilwin’s or It's Sugar for a sweet pick me up!

Here are our tips for parking at the bigger events:

  • Use the Delray Beach Downtowner.  Park farther afield than you would normally (think waaaaay off Atlantic Avenue in any direction) and then call 561-702-8519.

  • Use the valet and let them figure it out!

  • Don’t forget the city parking garages.  Let others troll up and down the avenue looking for street parking (what are they thinking!?) and just park for a flat rate at one of two parking garages nearby.  One is near the Delray Beach Public Library just west of Swinton and the other garage is behind the Old School Square Pavilion & Hyatt Place Hotel.

  • Get there much earlier and have a meal first!  If the event starts at 7pm, try to get there around 5:30 and have an “early bird” dinner on the avenue.
