Daggerwing Nature Center in western Boca Raton is a beautiful nature center with trails and observation tower behind. Become acquainted with the fauna and wildlife of South Florida while taking a walk along the boardwalk. Bring sun protection as the majority of the trail is not shaded at all. The observation tower is a fun climb but, like all wooden towers, can sway a bit in a breeze so if you're at all afraid of heights, skip it. Also, if you have arachnophobia be aware that the underside of the tower has colonies of spiders and their webs.

The nature center has a small niche to read books, do puzzles and relax in the front lobby. There is an education room with snakes and a gopher turtle behind the front desk. The main event is through the double doors to the left of the entrance. You walk thru a tunnel entrance with pretend insects to spot in the walls of "dirt". Then you enter a great room with some live critter exhibits, a HUGE bee that you can climb inside and watch a video about bees, and a mock swamp area that (in the back) houses a tiny adorable owl.

Daggerwing is a nice destination in itself but is also neat to include after a visit to the EXCELLENT playground and water park (Coconut Cove) also on property at the Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park.

Exhibits include: Below the Surface (with live aquatic turtles) Insect Zone (with a “bee car”) Seasonal Wet Environment (with live alligator, frog, and snapping turtle) From the Ground Up (with live box turtle) Tree Tunnel (with a live screech owl) Plant Parts/Leaf Rubbing Station (make a leaf rubbing to take home) Conservation Corner (learn how you can do your part).
